Celebrating over 25 years, Barrier Free Living (BFL) is dedicated to helping New Yorkers with disabilities live independently in the community.Our motto: "Helping People with Disabilities Help Themselves."
BFL provides a range of services and linkages to other community resources through our various programs, enabling individuals to overcome the obstacles that stand in the way of their living dignified, secure lives.
* The Secret Garden, a non-residential domestic violence intervention program providing case management, individual advocacy and safety planning for individuals with disabilities who have also experienced domestic violence;
* Transitional Housing, providing 24 single women and 24 single men with disabilities with shelter, case management, and independent living skills training and serving as the only program in New York City where homeless people requiring the services of a homecare attendant can find shelter;
* Outreach Team, a program that reaches out to physically disabled homeless adults with mental illness and chemical addictions and provides to them information and referrals, case management, and housing assistance services.
