In a message to members, Allison Sesso | Executive Director, Human Services Council honored and celebrated the life of Fred Scaglione.

Sesso wrote:

“It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of Fred Scaglione, founder and editor of the New York Nonprofit Press (NYNP). Fred had been quietly battling cancer for some time and passed away earlier this week. We understand there will be services on Saturday, August 15^th in, or near, his home town in Chatam, NY. We will send details once we have them.

Fred created a real gift to the nonprofit world with the creation of the Nonprofit Press (today known as New York Nonprofit Media). He drove policy discussions with his in-depth reporting; distilling complex human service issues into easy to digest stories. He was passionate about his work and driven by a true desire to see the nonprofit sector get the recognition it deserves from elected leaders. He was smart and had a quick wit.  All of this came out in his reporting; his sarcasm often incorporated into his editorial pieces. He always had a pulse on the key challenges facing the human services sector and used his role as a reporter to ask government officials hard questions.  We are delighted to have had the opportunity to work with him so closely for so many years and are deeply saddened by his loss.”
