South Africa’s double amputee runner Oscar Pistorius, who competed in the men’s 400m semi-finals at the athletics event during the London 2012 Olympic Games,  was selected to carry South Africa’s flag at the closing ceremony. The inspiring athlete also prompted the Boston Marathon to announce that it would be “well-pleased” to allow runners with prosthetic legs to compete in the open division.
