Giving Group volunteers

Inspired by “A Force for Good: The Dalai Lama’s Vision for Our World” Julie Pasqual and some friends created “The Giving Group” and set out to turn their compassionate energy outward.

Their generosity found a home at BFL’s Freedom House this summer, where the group created a “Holiday in July” party for the domestic violence shelter’s families. Pasqual has been donating her time doing yoga classes at Freedom House for the past 8 years.

Activities at the event included spin art, cookie decorating and yoga. BFL’s Occupational Therapy team worked with the The Giving Group to create the event and to facilitate activities.

“A  ton of cookies were decorated by the kids and generously given as presents to the mothers.  A lot of bubbles were blown which mesmerized the kids,” says Giving Group member David Kessler.  “The parents participated in a meditation and yoga class which gave them a little break and time to unwind.”

The Giving Group hopes to work again soon with the shelter.
